Vintage eyewear has shaped Pewpols from the start. It influenced our first silhouettes, set our visual language, and sparked the curiosity that still drives us. Arinn, Beit and Forchester were early expressions of that world, now part of our archives, marking where we began. We’ve always evolved with intention. Each frame is produced once, then retired, keeping our collections focused and our production deliberately small.
Refinement has guided us since day one. Pewpols was never about decoration for the sake of it, or technicality without purpose. People come to us for shape, colour and craftsmanship delivered with consistency. When detail strengthens a frame, we use it. When a silhouette needs to stay clean, we keep it that way.
Over the past year, customers began asking for pieces from our archive, frames with quiet presence and a natural place in the optical world. Modern vintage, done properly. At the same time, we were exploring our heritage, developing new engraving techniques and introducing external detailing inspired by Ireland: string motifs, linework, subtle Gaelic cues. These ideas shaped our newest collection.
Optical design is the foundation of Pewpols, the space where our founder works most instinctively. Silhouettes are shaped with purpose: a panto, a horn‑rim, a French or Anglo‑American profile. Using custom 10mm acetate, we created lighter forms, refined temples, reduced visible metalwork and leaned into colour and subtlety.
Ireland’s optical history played a role too. When Mary Donavan closed her long‑standing Gorey practice, a photograph of her wearing a striking feminine frame stood out. Donelan is our tribute to that moment.
This collection will continue to grow. While optical frames appear throughout our wider range, these optical‑only designs serve a clear purpose. Available exclusively in store, each piece is crafted from 10mm acetate with stepped 6mm temples, built‑up nose pads and trusted Italian hinges. No decoration without meaning. Just considered shapes, made by Pewpols.
